More information about your train journey
Here we've gathered everything you need to know before your trip to the mountains.
How does travelling by night train to the mountains work?
Boarding Snälltåget’s night train is the beginning of your mountain adventure. You can choose from various comfort levels. If you’re travelling with others, the best experience is to book a Private Compartment. In the evening, you can socialise, play games, and visit our restaurant, Krogen.
Seat – the budget-friendly option
You will have a seat in a standard carriage.
1st Class – for solo travellers
You’ll travel in a comfortable armchair that is wider than a standard seat. This option also includes a pillow with a pillowcase, blanket, and bottom sheet.
Berth in Shared Compartment – for those who don’t mind sharing a compartment
You share a compartment with other passengers – up to six persons. When you board, the compartment is in seat mode and when it is time for bed, you and the other passengers in the compartment turn the seats into berths. In night mode, there are three berths on each side of the compartment and you can reach the upper berths with a ladder. Pillows, pillowcases, sheets, blankets and duvets for making the bed are included in the price.
Private Compartment – for those travelling together
You will have a private compartment for yourself or your group of up to six people. When you board, the compartment is set up for seating, and when it’s bedtime, you and your companions will convert it to sleeping mode. In sleeping mode, there are three bunks on each side of the compartment. Pillows, pillowcases, sheets, and blankets are provided in the compartment. You will use a ladder to reach the upper berths.
Is there a restaurant on board?
Enjoying a meal in our restaurant Krogen is an essential part of your mountain holiday. Krogen is a popular spot, so reservations are recommended. You can book a table in Krogen via My Journey.
Do I need to book breakfast in advance?
Start your day with breakfast in Krogen or take a breakfast bag to your compartment.
The breakfast includes a double cheese roll, cinnamon bun, juice, and a hot drink (coffee, hot chocolate, or tea).
Pre-book your breakfast via My Journey to ensure availability! This way, you start the day well, and we avoid guessing how many breakfasts are needed, running out, or worst case, wasting food.
Pre-booked breakfast costs 99 SEK, and 109 SEK onboard.
How much luggage can I bring?
You may bring the following hand luggage onboard:
- Two pieces of hand luggage with maximum dimensions of 55x40x25 cm.
- One smaller personal item, e.g., handbag.
Place your luggage in your compartment or in the luggage area in the carriage vestibules. If you have booked a Private Compartment and don’t use all the berths, empty berths can be used for additional or larger luggage (e.g., a larger hiking backpack).
In our luggage carriage, you can check in larger items such as tents, which are also secured for the entire journey. Pre-book this service at the time of ticket purchase for 99 SEK per item.
Can I bring a bicycle on the train and transfer?
On train 24/25, you can bring your bicycle in our luggage carriage.
Pre-book bicycle transport for 199 SEK each way. You can check in and out your bicycle at all stations where the train stops. The bicycle should be packed to avoid damage.
You can also bring your bike on the connecting transfer for 125 SEK per direction.
Can I bring pets on the night train?
You can travel with a pet in the designated compartment when you book a Seat. Animals are also allowed in Private Compartments. Make sure you book the correct compartment by checking the box "I want to travel with a pet" in the first step of the online booking.
Can I rebook my journey or get a refund?
When you purchase a ticket on Snälltåget.se, you can rebook your ticket if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure (or 7 days before for a private compartment on night trains). Refundable tickets are also available for an additional fee.
